Amanda Brierley
Amanda Brierley is a Central Coast figurative artist working primarily in charcoal and oil. Her gestural, expressive work explores the human experience through prescience, connection, memory and the traces we leave behind.
The human figure is central to Amanda’s practice. Hands, bodies, partially obscured forms and physical gesture become a language for exploring presence and absence, tenderness and tension, weight and release. Working both from life and from photographic reference, she is particularly interested in the immediacy of charcoal: the way a single line, mark or erasure can hold movement and emotion.
Amanda returned to art following the death of her son, Kyan, in 2022. While grief remains an important thread within her practice, her work extends beyond loss to examine what it means to inhabit a body, connect with others, notice the world around us and continue through profound change.
Her current body of work will be presented in a solo exhibition on the Central Coast in December 2026. Alongside her larger studio works, Amanda creates portrait commissions and ongoing original charcoal Studio Studies from regular life-drawing sessions, capturing the energy and immediacy of the figure in short poses.
Amanda also co-founded Raven Heart Art Creative Space in Green Point on the Central Coast, where she teaches beginners and experienced artists drawing, painting, kintsugi and life drawing.
